"I shift my hand forward, and my blood sizzles on the coals."(47)
Progress Report #3 Theme George Ivory
Development of Theme #2
"It's coming from the park at the end of the pier."(147)
A major theme in Divergent would be discovering your own personality and purpose. In the book, we see Beatrice deciding may things, such as which faction to be in and what type of preson she should become.
Development of Theme #3
"We're going to slide down a steel cable in a black sling from one thousand feet up."(218)
This scene is the first major development of Tris, the main character. During the choosing ceremony, she has the choice of either staying with her current faction or picking a new faction. In the end, she chooses a new faction.
The second development of the theme is when Tris climbs the Ferris wheel during capture the flag to spot the enemy's position. This symbolizes that she is growing more diverse and becoming her own person instead of having her personality controlled by her past faction's ways.
The third development of the theme is when Tris goes with the other Dauntless to zip line off a building. In this scene, she chooses to go with the dauntless which shows that she if becoming more diverse. This scene represents her leaving her former self by interacting with Dauntless activities.
I predict that at the end of the book, she will become a completely different person from her former self. In the end, I see her possibly becoming a Dauntless leader and changing her corrupt faction into a more stable and true faction.
