  • Val Ginsburg grew up during the interwar years of WWI and WWII, in a small country called Lithuania. He came from a secular Jewish family of free thinkers who did not believe in organised religion.

  • As a young man, Val dreamed of becoming a pilot, Aviation was his passion, and he loved building model aeroplanes. His plans, however, were soon interrupted by the coming conflict.

  • In the summer of 1940, Russia invaded Lithuania. They enforced communist law, making all landholders and business owners enemies of the state. Their intention was to send them, including Val's family, to slave labour camps in Siberia.

  • One week before the land and business owners were to be deported, Hitler's army began it's assault on Russia. They also swept through and occupied Lithuania, removing communist law, and as a consequence releasing Val's family from deportation.
  • After the Invasion, the germans started their anti Jew racial laws to which would eventually become the known as the holocaust. The nazis banned Jews from public places and made them wear the yellow star of David with the word Jew embroidered on it.

  • The Hated Nazi SS rounded up the Jews from towns and executed them. Then buried them in mass graves.
