Storyboard Text

  • Background Information: Before the Punic Wars, some of the major islands in the Mediterranean sea were controlled by Carthage. These islands were the reason for the Punic War. The First Punic War was caused by the island of Sicily when Italian mercenaries known as Mamertines were invited to a city. They decided to conquer the city instead of being its guests. When somebody tried to fight the Mamertines, they asked the Carthaginians to help them. After Carthaginians helped them, the Mamertines thought it was lame to obey the Carthaginian rules anymore, so they went to Rome for help.

  • The First Punic War was a back and forth win and lose kind of war. Carthaginians were losing on land and Rome was messing everything on the sea. Rome had never fought on the sea or outside of Italy.  They had to build a navy to fight the Carthaginians, one of the stories says that Rome did not even know how to build a navy.
  • Story Continued in Storyboard:
