Your English class has 5 black students 6 hispanic students and 2 white students. The teachers is white . Lets look at how this affects people.
This is not only a national problem it is a state and local problem. According to NYSED here in WHHS there are total of 57 teachers, 2 are black, 5 hispanic, 50 are white. According to U. S. News the student body however is super diverse %39 are white, %33 are hispanic, %19 are black.
This is also state issue, according to NCES %76.3 are white, %9.8 are hispanic %8.6 are black, %3.4 are asian,and 1.2 percent are two or more races
Lastly this issue extends nationally, %80.1 are white, % 6.7 are black, %8.8 are hispanic, %2.3 Asian, %.2 are pacific islander, %.4 are American indian/ American native,%1.4 are two or more races
We need to do something to show kids role models that look like them. Some states will begin to prioritize recruiting teachers of different races to help educate our youth.
