  • “It isn't fair, it isn't right," Mrs. Hutchinson screamed, and then they were upon her.” Tessie Hutchenson   The town people were preparing to stone Mrs. Hutchenson to death due to her being picked in the Lottery.
  • "Mr. Summers takes his job very seriously and does not mind amending old customs as he sees fit." Mr Summers changes the way the lottery is run whenever he want to. the origional way the lotter was run was long forgotten but they still carry out the stoning.
  • "The Lottery" is about capital-T Tradition, the kind of tradition that "no one liked to upset" Old Man Warner The Lottery has been used in the town every year to help keep the population down. Other villages in the area also had similar lotteries but have since ended them.
