Zoo Planners ( students) meet our guide, current zoo resident Blizzard the Polar Bear. Blizzard introduces and guides us to the Sustainable Zoo, a place for species at risk of endangerment .
Blizzard introduces us to two current zoo residents, detailing their endangered status and habitat needs. Blizzard states how all residents of the zoo are endangered species, or at risk of endangerment in the near future due to de-forestation, environmental factors or poachers. Blizzard also explains that there are future plans for more habitats and an endangered plant habitat in the near future.
Resident one is Godric the Low- Land Gorilla. Blizzard and Godric discuss his Endangered status, species numbers and needs for his habitat. Blizzard explains how Godric's zoo habitat is sustainable, environmentally friendly and designed with Godric's needs in mind.
Next, we meet Steve the Southern Corroboree Tree Frog. Steve tells us about his endangered species and natural habitat. Blizzard explains how Steve's zoo habitat replicates his natural habitat.
Blizzard explains that a new section of the zoo has opened and four new habitats need to be populated. Blizzard then gives the project brief: Zoo Planners need to select animals from the endangered species list and research their current population, habitat and needs. Planners then design a habitat which is sustainable for the environment and uses natural and features and if possible, native plants when creating the habitat.
Planning is presented to the Zoo Board ( teacher) through a presentation which includes a scale model of the habitat.
