Ever since the birth of the Pharaoh in Egypt, the Israelites were treated as slaves. They were forced to do hard labour for their Egyptian masters.

The Israelites became plentiful, and threatening to the Pharaoh's power. He ordered all Israelite boys to be killed upon birth.
During this time, a hebrew boy was born. He was placed in a basket, and put among reeds in the Nile River where he was later found by the Pharaoh's wife. She named him Moses, which means - "I drew him out of the water."
