  • In 1942 , The British and the Americans had  interest in a large scale attack on the  English  channel.  A year passed and they had  began developing   a plan.   
  • 
  • Plans
  • In 1944 , General  Dwight  Eisenhower  took the role of commander  and conducted  an operation   to  mislead the  Germans on their true target. This was known as Operation Fortitiude 
  •  on June 6th  1944,  more than   5000  ships  left England  and were on route to    Normandy
  • The beaches were were divided up with code names. America had Utah and Omaha, Britain had Gold and sword, and Canada had Juno 
  • Utah was the easiest to capture as little opposition was set for the that point  
  •  Omaha posed the most challenge due to the heavy German resistance in that area
