St. Nicholas was born in patara, lycia on march 15th, 270 AD and died on December 6th 343, AD.
St. Nicholas was a christian bishop who helped the needy. After his death, the legend of his gift giving grew and transformed into the legendary character called Santa Claus who gave gifts to children all around the world.
In 325 AD the Emperor had a meeting with over 300 bishops debating over nature of the holy trinity. St. Nicholas was angry and slapped the Emperor across his face, everyone was surprised and he was then throw in prison.
Nicholas was ashamed and prayed for forgiveness
During the night Jesus and Mary his mother appeared and gave him the book of the gosepels to Nicholas and mary gave him an omophorion, so Nicholas would dress as a bishop again. Later that night one of the guards found him in his cell wearing the omophorion and the book of goseples and released him
In honor of Nicholas everyone in his town would build an christmas tree in the middle of town and put gifts that the needy could take
