Maya is in school and is given her permission slip for the school dance. She can't wait to go home and get it signed because she has a kid in mind that she wants to go to the dance with.
4. Falling Action
Mom hurts her ankle and can't do all of her jobs anymore. Now Maya has to do all of her mom's jobs including cleaning others peoples houses and cooking for her family. On top of all of that, Maya has to do all of her homework and skip gymnastics.
Maya got permission to go to the school dance after Nurzhan helped her and explained to her parents that in America, girls and boys are aloud to be just friends and hang out together.
Mom gives Maya a bracelet that her mom gave to her when she was 16. Maya's mom gave her the bracelet because she realized that Maya is mature and responsible for her age and she's proud if her.
Maya is at the dance with her three friends and Nurzhan. Their parents said that Nurzhan had to go to "protect" Maya, but he just sat in the back and watched.
The conflict is man vs. society. It's basically that Maya and her whole family are having a little bit of a harder time adjusting to America's traditions and living style than they thought.
