King Duncan (Left Middle)has just appointed his eldest son Malcom (Left) Prince of Cumberland. Banquo (Right Middle) watches as Macbeth grows angrier and begins to devise a plan.
"'Our eldest, Malcom, whom we name hereafter The Prince of Cumberland'...'That is a step on which I must fall down or else o'erleap."(I,iv,29)
"Come, thick night, And pall thee in the dunnest smoke of hell, That my keen knife see not the wound it makes."(I, v, 33)
Lady Macbeth is so intoxicated with the feeling of pure evil and excitedly runs through her murderous plans with herself.
'"When Duncan is asleep...his two chamberlains will I with wine and wassail so convince that memory, the warder of the brain, shall be a fume...When in swinish sleep their drenched natures lies as in death, What cannot you and I perform upon th' unguarded Duncan.'" (I, vii, 43)
Lady Macbeth reveals her murderous plot to Macbeth and tries to convince him to go along with it, but he is quite unsure.
