  • Hmm..Interesting!
  • Vespucci And "The Indies"
  • Thou have heard of thee Columbus and thee "Indies"?
  • Yes! Thou Columbus is very popular with thee discovery of thee "Indies"!
  • Sailing To "The Indies"
  • Is thou Vespucci excited to see thee "Indies"? I, as captain am much excited. I too have not yet seen, thee "Indies", yet!
  • Yes! Very! I am excited to see thee "Indies" after hearing much conversation of how it looks like. I hear that thou "Indies" has much opportunity! I hope to see if 'tis true
  • Realizing The Truth
  • Thy "Indies" is not Asia at all! 'Tis a new continent!
  • Thou Is incorrect! 'Tis thee "Indies"! Not new continent!
  • Characters: Amerigo Vespucci; a wealthy Italian (soon to be)"map maker": Peasants; low class villagers in Italy Amerigo Vespucci hears rumors of the profound Christopher Columbus and the discovery of a new route to "the Indies". He becomes intrigued by rumors, and he hears such conversation among peasants.
  • Heading Back With A Discovery.
  • Ay! 'Tis True! Thou made thee discovery!
  • Characters: Amerigo Vespucci; a wealthy (soon to be) "map maker": Captain; the captain of the ship. After hearing much detail of Columbus's discovery of the "Indies", Amerigo boards a ship to sail to"the Indies". He wants to see for himself what this "new" region looks like. He speaks to the captain of the ship to share his excitement.
  • Comparing Asia
  • Characters: Amerigo Vespucci; a wealthy Italian (soon to be) "map maker": Passengers; fellow sailors Amerigo finally arrives to "the Indies" on his first voyage. As he inhabits the "new" land Vespucci learns more about it and quickly realizes it's not Asia but a new continent.
  • The Final Straw: Renaming "the Indies"
  • I name thee thy "New World"!
  • "The New World" will be renamed "(North and South) America"
  • Characters: Amerigo Vespucci; a wealthy Italian (soon to be) map maker: Colleague; Amerigo's friend and "co-worker". After two voyages back and forth from Europe to "the Indies", Amerigo returns to Europe convinced that"the Indies" discovered by Colombus are actually a new continent. He writes so in a letter saying that the land is more populated by people and "full of animal". He tells a colleague about his findings as well.
  • More densely people and full of animals more than our Europe, Africa and Asia.
  • 'Tis not like Asia. Much People and animal make the difference see.
  • Characters: Amerigo Vespucci; a wealthy Italian map maker To prove that he discovered a "New World", Vespucci takes known maps from Asia and maps he made (with the encounters of "the Indies") and compares the two. He discovers that Columbus had indeed not discovered "the Indies" or a new route to it but a new continent.
  • Ay! 'Tis True! I am correct! 'Tis new continent indeed! Thee "Indie's" is not!
  • Characters: Amerigo Vespucci; a wealthy Italian map maker: Narrator; character that announces the change in "The New World's" name. Vespucci (with the idea of a new continent and the evidence of his maps) makes a voyage onto what is now South America and renames it "The New World". This is the third and most most sucessful of all his voyages. Later,"The New World" is (once again) renamed North and South America. (After a German mapmaker who named the America's "the Land of Amerigo")
