Storyboard Text

  • (Brad) are there any aliens that we can meet here in space cause that would be cool and kind of freaky.
  • Is there anything you would like learn about?
  • Im so glad you asked me that question Brad, To live on a planet you would need a breathable atmosphere , liquid water and the right amount of sunlight. There could be another planet that can support life in the future like the planet Kepler 22-b in the next solar system called the Kepler system, also one of Jupiters moons can support life and that moon is Europa
  • We were going to learn about tides and eclipses on the field trip but were probably not going to so can you teach us about tides and eclipses?
  • sure Bethany
  • There are two types of eclipses a solar eclipse and a lunar eclipse. A solar eclipse happens when the moon blocks all the sunlight coming from the sun to the earth this usually happens when the moon is in its new moon phase. A lunar eclipse happens when the earth blocks the sunlight reflecting off of the earth to the moon these usually occur when the moon is in its full moon phase.
  • Tides are caused by the gravitational pull of the moon. There are two common types of tides low tide and high tide, also Neap tides and Spring tides. Neap tides are tides that do not fall as low as normal tides and do not rise as high as normal tides, they occur twice a month when the moons in its first quarter phase and its last quarter phase. Spring tides on the other hand are extremely high and extremely low, they occur when the moon is in its new moon and full moon phase.
  • Sure, there are 8 moon phases that are new, waxing crescent, 1st quarter, waxing gibbous, full, waning gibbous, last quarter and waning crescent. New moon is when you can't see any of the moon lit up, waxing moons is when the lit side of the moon is gradually increasing, first and last quarter moon is when half of the moon is lit up, full moon is when the whole moon is lit up, and finally waning moon is when the moons size is gradually decreasing. The moon appears to have phases because of the Earths and moons rotation.
  • (Brad) what about phases of the moon? I wasn't paying attention in class when we learned about them.
  • I can tell you about the Earths tilt. The Earth tilts on a 23.5 degree angle as it revolves around the sun. The Tilt causes night and day to happen all the time. Also while the earths on its tilt revolving around the sun seasons happen. The Earths tilt is important our everyday lives.
  • What about the Earths tilt
  • Thats right Cassie!
