  • Exposition
  • Conflict
  • Rising Action
  • Doodle is born and he has a disability. His head is too big for the body and he cannot walk.
  • Climax
  • Narrator is embarrassed of his brother. He wished Doodle didn't have a disability and he wanted to play with him.
  • Falling Action
  • Narrator took Doodle outside to teach him how to walk. They took months but Doodle can walk now.
  • Resolution
  • Doodle and Narrator both come across a dead scarlet Ibis. Doodle feels sympathy but the rest of the family doesn't. This foreshadows Doodle's death.
  • Doodle and Narrator were running and when Narrator turns around, Doodle isn't there with him.
  • Doodle dies and Narrorator learns his lession. He realizes that Doodle was never fit to survive and he feels bad for trying to change him.
