Storyboard Text

  •  When am I going to eat a full meal and not street scraps?
  • Please, can I have something? A little bit of money? Anything?
  • This could be my chance. My dream was to become a wealthy business man and help other people get to where I am with books
  • Have you heard the rumors that have been going around the city?  There is this guy named Johannes Gutenberg who has printed the first bible and can make it for a lower price than what the monks charge.
  • He lives on fifth street
  • It was early in the year 1444. Books are really expensive and no one really has them. Hans and his family are really poor. He is living on a thread in Mainz, Germany. He wants to become a businessman, but his parents don't have the money to send him to a school. Fortunately, he knows how to read, but does not have any books to do so.
  • Do you know where Johannes Gutenberg lives?
  • The next thing I knew, I was begging on the streets. I was not trying to rip off the people, I was just trying to get enough money to live.  How would I ever become a good business man.
  • Yes I am Johannes Gutenberg
  • Hi. Are you Johannes Gutenberg?
  • Sure, come over here.
  • The next day, while I was walking along the shore talking to Otto,  I knew this man he was talking about was my way to the good life.  From the little I know about business, if you make it for cheaper, you sell it for cheaper. Maybe, just maybe, I could work for him so I could earn enough money to buy a book about German business.
  • Can I see your invention and your books with the prices?
  • Later that day, I was determined to meet this man named Johannes Gutenberg, so I went exploring all over the city asking people if they knew him and finally I found one person who knew where he lived.
  • I went running all the way to fifth street. When I knocked on the door, it opened and a man stepped out.
  • Then we started to talk, he showed me the prices of his books. He showed me how he made the books with a revolutionary machine called the printing press. They where a fraction of the cost compared to the ones ones made by monks due to how efficient it was. Despite this, still I could not afford to buy the book on German business.
