  • Noah Jackson is the main character of the book. Noah is a caring father to his baby daughter. Hes very smart and considerate. He gets hit upside the head with a baseball bat by Charles Scaturro.
  • Setting: ¨Id crossed Decatur Avenue into Hillsbro with bonds and Asa¨ 1
  • Charles Scaturro is the person to hit Noah in the head with a baseball bat. Hes rude and disrespectful throughout the book and believes all his friends turned on him during the incident. 
  • Suspense:¨Ẅas it really going to mean anything- To me or anybody else?¨ 139
  • The theme of Response was that everyone gets justice for their actions. Scat got what he deserved and when  the trial comes he is given the chance to be smart about what he did. Noah got justice, although he knew what he was doing was wrong, He still got something good from the experience. 
  • Mood: ¨The next day at school, I heard a mod of voices shouting, ¨Guilty!¨
  • Throughout the book, we notice a few very frequent locations. His house, the courthouse and mention the Hillsbro area. These represent the diffrent minds of the people in the book. 
  • Response gave a lot of suspense through the book. It started the bat to Noahs head. It gave us issue that was a huge deal and created suspense. And with all the trials we never know what happens and fills the book with mystery. 
  • The mood of the book seemed to be all around getting justice and the expense of it all. The book shows how the people of the mostly white school was against the blacks and how the tense disagreement between the too is hurting everyone and becoming a huge issue.
