Closing the Straits of Tiran will weaken Israel's economy as it will reduce her ability to trade and to get oil ! I have under my command Jordanian forces and signed a treaty with Jordan ! I do not fear Israel ! Israel should fear me !
I have to seem as a strong leader.
Oh no ! I did not think through this enough !
Nasser, as he wanted to be seen as the hero of the Arabs, threatened to launch an attack with the aim to destroy Israel, unless Israel let Palestinians return to their homes and return the land rightfully gained in the 1948-49 war.
I accept UN call for a ceasefire.
Israel had to act fast in order to defend itself from an Egyptian attack. Therefore, it intellegently launched a surprise attack on Egypt on 5 June 1967 and managed to destroy effectively its and Syria's as well as Jordan's air forces and airfields. Israel then occupied the Gaza Strip, showing its obvious power over the Arab States, and protecting itself successfully.
The Golan Heights
On the next day, IDF tanks moved quickly across Sinai, and fiercly fought for control of Jerusalem, which rightfully belonged to them, against Jordan. Israel demonstrated, by this action, strength and efficacity, facing all by herself, Arabs who threatened her in the first place, fearful of her strength.
On 7 June 1967, IDF achieved complete control of Sinai and of East Jerusalem. Jordan is forced to face its defeat and accepts UN call for a ceasefire. On the following day, Egypt has no other choice but to do the same, and IDF has now complete control of the West Bank, showing once again its obious superiority over Arabs.
On 9 June 1967, IDF strongly continues to protect itself and successfully attacks the Syrian army in the Golan Heights. Israel manages to take complete control of it just the following day, forcing Syria to accept UN call for a ceasefire.
It is an inevitable and earned success for Israel, as in 6 days only, it managed to protect itself form her neighbour's threats and acheive complete control of Sinai, the West Bank and the Golan Heights , all by itself, using strength as well as strategy.
