Esau Sells His Birthright
Please brother! I am begging you,
Esau grew up as a huntsman. He was constantly in the woods hunting for game. He rarely was at home. Because of this, he gained favor with Isaac. Isaac loved all the food he brought back from hunting.
Isaac decides it's time for Esau's blessing
Go, Esau my son, and bring me back food, then I will bless you
The time has come, Jacob must know!
Jacob was more quiet and thoughtful. He tended to his father's flocks. While Esau was preferred by Isaac, Jacob was favored by his mother, Rebekah. She thought he was wiser and more careful in his work.
Isaac blesses Jacob
After a long day of hunting, Esau has been unsuccessful. He comes home starving and sees that Jacob has prepared a delicious stew. He begs and pleads for it, but Jacob will only give it over if Esau gives him his birthright. Esau eventually gives in and agrees.
You will only get food if you sell me your birthright.
Isaac has grown old and has decided it is time to give Esau his birthright. He tells Esau to go fetch some game for him, then he will bless him. Esau does this, ignoring his promise to Jacob. Rebekah hears this and tells Jacob about what is happening.
Rebekah and Jacob trick Isaac by covering himself in Esau's clothes and animal hide. Rebekah cooked the meat that Jacob was to bring Isaac. After Isaac had partaken of the meat, he blessed Jacob as Esau, giving Jacob the birthright.
