Storyboard Description

Comic strip about the genetic advancements of Rosalind Franklin.

Storyboard Text

  • Rosalind Franklin (Part 1) by Gracie Miller References:
  • Rosalind Franklin was born in 1920 in London. She had four siblings in her Jewish family
  • Rosalind became a scientist, and studied the microstructures of coal before working with Jacques Mering in Paris.
  • I'm Sciwizard Mering, and shall bestow onto you the knowledge of x-ray diffraction and crystallography!
  • X-ray diffraction: used to identify crystal structures.
  • Soon you shall also earn your Biochemizardry Cloak.
  • How it works: x-rays are diffused in different patterns based on structure.
  • Crystallography: the study of crystalline structures are their atoms.
  • I've earned my cloak, and will use my new knowledge to study DNA! Bwaahaahaahaa!
  • Next, I could try taking a DNA strand, fastening it to a support, and securing it in a special camera. This would let me take pictures of the DNA.
  • It's suspected by other sciwizards that DNA is shaped as a helix.
  • I'll need to place an x-ray film behind the support with DNA, then bombard it with magic  fireballs of x-rays! This x-ray diffraction will create an image for the camera.
  • First, I'll need to obtain purified DNA samples, and draw them into strands.
  • I'll conduct an experiment to determine if this is true.
  • In order to prevent the x-rays from reflecting off air molecules, I'll concoct a bubbling hydrogen solution in my cauldron, and pour it into the camera.
  • I should record everything on my magic tablet.
  • Hypothesis: DNA is helix-shaped   IV: Observing technique  DV: photo results    Experimental Group: a series of photos         Control Group: previous photos
