  • Confucius was born in 551 Bc. He believed that it was useless to speculate on spiritual questions. It was better to assume there was an order in the universe
  • He lived in a time where China was struggling, many different armies were fighting and people were panicking.
  • He wished that china would go back to the way it was during the golden age. Which he considered the age of perfection
  • He traveled around trying to get people to agree with his ideas. He was not well loved, many of his arguments were on politics.Which had specific rules at this time. He believed that anyone could rule even if they were not born royal.Which was not agreed with.
  • Off of Confucius ideas Confucianism was born. Confucius believed that if humans would act in harmony with the universe, their own affairs would prosper.  So all of the the ideas in Confucianism are based off of this main principle.
  • Duty means that people had to know that the things they want come second to the greater want or need of their family and community.
  • There are two main elements to the Confucian way Duty and Humanity.
  • Humanity refers to a sense of compassion and empathy for others. They believe “ Do not do unto others what you would not wish done to yourself.”
  • Even though most people thought Confucius was crazy when he was still alive. After his death in 479 his ideas were wide spread across China and opened the door to many new ideas in politics and Chinese life in general.  Until the 20th century almost every Chinese pupil studied Confucianism.Confucianism has shaped social structure and politics that are even used to this day.
