  • Battle Lasted for three days. On second day- July 2nd- Minnesotaś Regiment fought fiercely and was able to hold the Confederates until more Union soldiers could arrive. Both armies lost 9,000 or more people  on each side.  Total deaths came to over 35,000 people in just two days. 
  • Gettysburg Battle July 1-3, 1863
  • In May, 1863, Confederate General Robert E. Lee won a battle in Virginia, giving him confidence to try to invade North again. In July, they came face to face with the Union soldiers in Gettysburg 
  • On July 3rd, after 7 hours of fighting, the Union won. Lee tried to resign but was refused by President Jefferson. Union lost total of 23,000 and Confederates lost 28,000 people in this battle. This was one of the biggest turning point towards Unionś favor in the Civil War and ended with Unionś victory .  
  • Abraham Lincoln gave his famous speech in November 1863 at the dedication of the National Cemetery at Gettysburg.
