Throughout the Elizabethan era, men had more advantages than woman. Women would be expected to marry, and would be dependent on her male relatives. men had more power than woman.
but for poor women, the only long term"career" really open them was a domestic service. a man was considered the head of the marriage. they thought this because they saw women as property and they should do as they want.
Elizabethan society was patriarchal, meaning that men were considered to be leaders to woman their inferiors. women regardless of social posistion were not allowed to vote. women did not have as many rights as they have now.
