There was once a knight names Virginius, he was wealthy, had a loving wife and a daughter of great beauty. His daughter was also humble and avoided any act that could compromise her virtue.
The wife and daughter went into town were a judge who governed the town saw the daughter and lusted after her. The devil ran into his heart and told him that by trickery, he could have her all for himself.
Appius (the judge), sent after a churl and told him the plan, giving him precious & expensive gifts for his complicity. After, the fake churl went and made a complaint against Virginius, he said that Virginius was holding one of his servants (his daughter).
The judge summoned Virginius to hear the charge against him. Claudius (the false churl), claimed that Virginius was holding one of his servants, a beautiful young girl whom he pretended was his daughter. The judge did not liste to Virginius' argument in his own defense and he ordered that the girl be taken as a ward of the court.
Virginius went back home feeling shook. He told his daughter that she had to choose either death or shame. After a long mournful speech to his daughter, Virginius decided he was going to kill her, she begged for another solution. She fainted and when she awoke, she blessed God that would die a Virgin. Virginius then cut off her head and took it to the judge.
CHOICE BETWEEN SHAME AND DEATH
When Appius saw the head, he tried to escape and hang himself. But a thousand people thrusted in knowing about the false iniquity and threw him into prison. "Abandon sin, before the sin abandons (destroys) you".
