Storyboard Text

  • All we do is work and sleep, no other societies exist in our lives
  • Yeah! Let's blame that on all the immigrants.
  • ....
  • We want to take back what is ours! Get out of our country.
  • Now that they have left our country, I think I should become the dictator...
  • Society and Nondemocratic Rule: Many authoritarian systems are formed through the absence of civil society.
  • Yeah I think we should have Islamist terrorist groups fighting against the Soviets
  • It doesn't matter. DO IT NOW!
  • Sir, it might cause problems in the future...
  • Often this leads to populism, the idea that people need to "take back" what belongs to them.
  • I, the ayatollah shall lead you, following Sharia law!
  • This is the only true leader, as he has been given power by God!
  • International Relations and Nondemocratic rule: Borders that were once badly drawn by imperialist powers now lead to destabilized autonomous countries with authoritarian leaders.
  • You are to obey those that are above you so that we can all live in peace and harmony, as too much freedom threatens this!
  • This can also be caused through proxy wars between two big powers.
  • Culture and Nondemocratic Rule: In some cultures, laws are seen as handed down by God and the state is not secular. In many Muslim countries for example, political equals religious power.
  • In Confucianism for example, freedom is limited and the hierarchy is obeyed in order to ensure peace, harmony and consensus. A leader rules through a "mandate from heaven".
