Storyboard Text

  • The 1600's
  • There are too many rocks! I can't farm any where!
  • A generous amount of English immigrants arrived in New England. They came to New England because they wanted to practice christianity purely. They were also unhappy with their current churches.
  • When the immigrants first moved to New England they loved it. The only problem was the land. It was very rocky and hard to farm. To help with this struggle they read the Bible.
  • Once everyone started to read the Bible they believed everything in it. Part of the Bible stated that Devils were real. The Devil would go into someones body and turn them into a witch.
  • After this "fact" was now known, the jail began to fill. The jail was filled the most in the spring time by accusers.
  • They began hanging the accusers. Hanging continued until September 22.
  • After the governor's wife was accused, they stopped the killings. Everyone was finally happy again!
