The main character Loisel describes her life you how she thought it was horrible and how it's still horrible. She is always wanting more. She had a decent house that had furniture and someone to clean it fore her.
One day her husband came home with a letter from the Minister of Public Instruction and Mine. The letter was inviting her to a ball. She didn't want to go because she didn't have a dress.
Her Husband bought her a dress with his money. Then she wanted jewels and her husband suggested to borrow some from her friend Forestier. She borrowed a diamond necklace and went to the ball. She had a great time
on her way home she didn't want to be seen with her normal clothes. They couldn't find a cab so they had to walk home. When she got home she realized the necklace was missing.
They looked all over for it and couldn't find it. After looking forever they lied to Forestier that they were fixing a broken clasp. They had to end up buying an identical one with all of there's money.
They gave Forestier the replacement and she didn't notice. Loisel and her husband had to live and make up for all the money. Later loisel told her what happened and forestier told her told it was worth almost nothing.
