Storyboard Text

  • As the new president of the United States, I say that the men John Adams said could be justices, can not be.
  • Adams promised that I could be a judge, I am taking this to the Supreme Court!!
  • The decision made by the new president, Thomas Jefferson, made Marburry very angry. He was told by the previous president, John Adams, that he could be a judge.
  • I want a writ of mandamus! My commision has already been created so I am entitled to this writ!
  • The Supreme court does not have the power to do that.
  • You do have the power, you are the Supreme Court!
  • We do agree that you have the right to receive your commision, but we get our power from the Constitution and it says only certain kinds of cases can start here.
  • In 1789 Congress passed an unconstitutional law. They did not have the power to allow more cases to start in the Supreme Court.
  • We have to strike down on Congress because they passed an unconstitutional law.
  • Judicial review allowed the Supreme court to say what is constitutional and what is not. It gave them equal power to the legislative and executive branch. They could say whether or not what other branches were doing was constitutional
  • Judicial review connects to the concept of a living constitution because it gives the Supreme court to interpret the constitution so they can decide if something is unconstitutional or not under any circumstance.
