Hey! I am Oswald Avery and It's 1904, I just received my medical degree from Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons today!!!
Oswald Avery By: Grace Lauer
I joined the Hoagland Laboratory and now do bacteriological research!
Now that I am working in the Rockefeller Institute Hospital, I wonder what I can find out about the bacterium that is responsible for lobar pneumonia
we did experiments where two mice would be injected with two strains, S and R. One strain would kill the mouse, while the other would live. The mouse with the R strain would not get Pneumonia. He then realized that after injecting the S strain, it stayed active and could be inherited.
In 1944, We found out that these substances are genetic material, now called DNA
This is how, after a lot of extensive research and hard work, we were able to discover how genes can be inherited and those genes are made up of DNA!
