Athens and Sparta had similar government. They had an Assembly, whose members were elected by the people. As an Athenian, you could get a good education and could pursue any of several kinds of arts or sciences. You had a choice to serve in the navy or army. The Sparta life focus was on obedience and war. Young boys were trained to be warriors; young girls were trained to be mothers of warriors.

There are many different types of Government. A Monarchy is when there is one ruler. A democracy is when the people vote for leaders. Aristocracy a form of government that places power in the hands of a small, privileged ruling class. Oligarchy is a form of government run by a small number of people.
City States Joined in Times of Crisis
All the city states joined together in the Persian war because as one they were powerful. City sates were made also for daily life activities like trading and protection.
