  •  Samuel Leonard Tilley was born May 8, 1818. Tilley began to apprentice at a local drugstore when he was thirteen Tilley continued to be a pharmacist till he had to sell for his political career .
  • in 1843 Leonard married Juila Hanford and had 8 children with her, in 1862 Julia Hanford died. Then in 1867 Leonard marriedfellow advocate Alice Starr Chipman and they had two sons.
  • In 1844 Leonard Tilley was on the committee of New Brunswick. in both his temporary advocacy and political career he avoided populist oratory.
  • confederation Tilley was able to push throw legislature of confederation with a vote of 31 to 8. Leonard Tilley is responsible for the term "Dominion" to describe Canada after John A.   • Leonard Tilley resigned from the New Brunswick cabinet and became minister of cabinet in McDonald's first government. Tilley  was voted lieutenant governor in New Brunswick the same day McDonald's government fell through. Tilley resigned as lieutenant governor and became minister of finance
