Gatsby arrives at nicks house to pick him up for lunch in his yellow Rolls-Royce.
On the way to lunch, Gatsby explains in depth his story to Nick.
Gatsby: "Heres a photo of me with my old friends from Oxford"
Gatsby introduces Nick to his business partner Mr. Wolfsheim in order to impress Nick and to seem more credible. Gatsby also tell Nick that he has to speak to Jordan about something.
Nick: "It never occured to me that one man could start to play with the faith of fifty million people--with the single-mindedness of a burglar blowing a safe."
Jordan explains to Nick that Gatsby met Daisy when they were younger and how they have had a relatioship.
Jordan: " When I came opposite her house that morning her white roadster was beside the curb, and she was sitting in it with a lieutenant I had never seen before. They were so engrossed in each other that she didn't see me until I was five feet away."
Jordan explains how Gatsby went away and Daisy didn't wait but, instead married Tom Buchanan and when she came back from her honeymoon they were madly in love
Jordan told Nick that once Daisy had realized that Gatsby was that lieutenant from long ago she noticed she still loved him. Then Jordan tells Nick that Gatsby wants Nick to invite his cousin over for tea so Gatsby and Daisy can replenish their love.
