One of the most famous events in the suffrage movement is the Seneca Falls Convention in 1848 which was run by Elizabeth Cady Stanton, Lucretia Mott, Martha C. Wright, Mary Ann McClintok, and Jane C. Hunt. The convention lasted 2 days. Only women attended the first day and both men and women on the second.
Elizabeth Cady Stanton did a lot to help the suffrage movement besides organizing the convention, she...
fought for womens rights till the end of her life
traveled around the world forming suffrage groups
gave speeches on equality
was attacked through newspapers and verbally
I did that!
Many people fought for women's rights, just as I did. Sojurner Truth was one of the earliest suffragists.
I am a freed slave who helps other slaves join freedom and I also fight for women's rights. I gave the famous "Ain't I a Woman Speech", met with Abraham Lincoln to discuss ways to help freedmen. My goal in life was to help help get rid of some of the darkness in this world.
I started a hunger strike on Nov. 6th 1917. I threatened to starve myself until better food was served for everyone.
Another famous suffragist was Alice Paul.
I am a women's right activist who was sent to jail for 6-7 months for picketing the white house.
With all the progress the suffragist made, one of the last steps was to get the Presidents approval.
I originally did not support the suffrage movement. People were thrown in jail, force fed, and suffered unsanitary conditions as a result of protesting. Overtime, I began to support the movement.
Word War l was another turning point in the suffrage movement. Lots of things took place during this period which helped the movement advance.
