There once was a man named Frederick Douglass. He was a slave to a man named Covey. Covey told Douglass if he didn't work, he would beat him! So, Douglass went to collect wood.
Douglass oxen ran off and he lost the wood for Covey. When Douglass told Covey what happened, Covey beat him and took him to go back and get more wood.
One day while Douglass was working, he got sick and stopped working. When Covey found out, he ran in and beat Douglass with a heavy object, telling him to get up and work.
After Douglass got beaten, he decided to talk to his master to get him away from Covey. But, his master said Covey was a good man and that Douglass had to go back.
When Douglass came back, Covey found him and treated to beat him. But, Douglass decided to fight back! Douglass and Covey fought for 2 hours and in the the end, Douglass won.
After Douglass fought Covey, he never beat Douglass again.
