  • Chlorophyll absorbs energy from the sunlight. The energy is transferred. Water molecules are broken down and oxygen is released. Energy carried along the thylakoid membrane is transferred to energy carrying molecules like ATP. Energy from the light independent and dependent reactions is used to add carbon dioxide to a chemical reaction that build larger molecules. The molecules are then turned into glucose.
  • How is it Important
  • Photosynthesis is important because plants take in water, sunlight, and carbon dioxide to turn it into glucose and oxygen. Without photosynthesis, all living things would be dead because the plants that do photosynthesis produce oxygen which is what we need to live. Plants are producers which means it produces food and oxygen for humans and plants. If we didn't have these producers, there would be to much carbon dioxide in the air and herbivores would die out because that is there only food source. Then the carnivores would die out because they eat the herbivores. It is all a life cycle so without plants doing photosynthesis, all living things would die out.
  • Cellular Respiration is important because it provides energy for all living organisms to function and run their body. Some living organisms that are singled celled organisms don't need cellular respiration to live. They could survive on glucose or fermentation. Without cellular respiration, we wouldn't be able to perform simple tasks like talk or walk.

  • How Are They Related
  • Photosynthesis and Cellular Respiration are related because they combine their processes because all living things need these two processes to survive. They both create and consume the same substances like water, carbon dioxide, and glucose. Photosynthesis needs the products of cellular respiration and cellular respiration need the products of photosynthesis to work both processes. Together, the cells can make and keep energy and help keep even amounts of oxygen and carbon dioxide in the air.
