In the original story, the king saved the life of the bearded man or the injured man. The king helped mend his wounds where he was stabbed by the king's men. When he was done with that, he took him to a bed in the hermits house and laid him down to rest.
That is when the bearded man decided to become more generous and help the people in the village too.
When he was back in the village, he came up with his ideas of how he could help the village people. first, he wouls make a meal for all the village people, then, he would help hospitals, finally, he would help mental institutes.
The first thing he did was make a meal for all the village men. He gave everyone all the food, but he didn't have any left for him. For his generosity, the people gave him a small portion of their food until he had enough for himself to eat.
Next, he helped all the ill in his village. knowing how hard it was to loose someone, he was happy to be doing it.
Finally, the last think he did was help people in mental institutes. He interviewed all the staff and patientsand talked to them until he felled as if he did something good.
