Storyboard Text

  • Do you guys ever wonder why we need phrases and clauses?
  • random, but yes. They're what holds a sentence together, without them English would just be a bunch of rndom letters.
  • ok then smart guy, what's the point of colons and semicolons?
  • well semicolons are used to connect two independent clauses that are related.
  • and colons list things after a complete sentence, easy as that.
  • well, that's because a dependent clause isn't a complete sentence and needs to be connected to a dependent clause to become one.
  • one thing I don't understand is why dependent clauses are called 'dependent' on independent clauses.
  • I wanna know what the role of a subordinating     conjunction is to be honest.
  • well they're supposed to create a good flow in the story, while also combining two ideas in a sentence, and also figuring which of those two ideas are more important.
  • also to put more emphasis on colons, here's an example. 'grocery list: milk, eggs, baking soda.'
  • here's one for semicolons. ' I won an award today; it was for being the kindest student.'
  • Im glad I learned something new, I'd be lost without it in English class. Well then friends, I guess it's time we all head home
