Storyboard Text

  • John Brown was a stark abolitionist, he had convinced himself to be a prophet sent by God sent to punish those who supported the institution of slavery. Already guilty of murder, on October 16th of 1859, he prepared a violent retaliation to the southern people.
  • Do You Want your Freedom, Respect!
  • Yes!
  • He seduced several slaves, he planned to raid a federal arsenal in Harpers Ferry, VA. Yet, many of his loyal patron's were absent in his attack. Nevertheless he gathered to strike.
  • Where are your friends?
  • His band attacked the arsenal, they seized weapons and several nearby hostages, including the grand nephew of George Washington.
  • On the Ground Now! Hands up! Let's GO! Shut it kid whose gonna save you!
  • However, his siege was short lived. A Federal strike team led by Robert Lee a hero of the Mexican-American War would end the attack. John Brown himself would be captured.
  • Ahhhhhhh! No Boby Lee
  • He is.
  • Brown remained stoic and silent throughout the macabre atmosphere of his own trial, many saw this proof of Brown's sanity. Violence and radicalism became acceptable as a result, an environment perfect for civil war.
  • Brown was charged with murder and treason, the most heinous of crimes. As his neck buckled wrapped in a noose, people who despised him cheered, those who revered him griefed, the nation was becoming polarized. Civil war seemed inevitable.
  • Drat.
