Johnny was Ponyboy's best friend. Ponyboy knew Johnny had it rough at home and he wanted to help Johnny. When Ponyboy saw that Johnny had killed Bob, he wanted to keep him safe so he went to the church with Johnny. When Johnny dies, Ponyboy wanted to make sure Johnny dies a hero because Ponyboy knew what kind of person Johnny was. When Johnny died, it really affected Ponyboy. They were very close and when Johnny died Ponyboy felt like he had not only lost a friend, he had also lost a part of himself. That made Ponyboy very emotionally unstable.
Nobody cares about me. I feel like I'm all alone.
The hospital was a very sad, emotional, and scary place to Ponyboy. The hospital is where he was taken to after the traumatic fire at the church. The hospital is where Ponyboy saw his brothers for the first time since he had run away. This was a very emotional time for Ponyboy because he loves and missed his brothers very much. The hospital is where Johnny died. This was very sad for Ponyboy because Johnny was his best friend. The hospital is a place where Ponyboy never wants to go to again because it is a place where some very sad things happened. He has to learn how to deal with his feelings because of the events that occurred at the hospital.
"Stay gold, Ponyboy, stay gold." *dies*
The greaser vs. socs is the biggest conflict in The Outsiders. If this conflict did not exist, this story would not exist. If the greasers and socs did not get into fights, Bob wouldn't have tried to kill Ponyboy. Johnny would not have killed Bob. Ponyboy and Johnny would have never ran away to the church. Ponyboy ran away to the church partly because he was scared about what the socs would do to them. The gangs of the socs and greasers would never get into rumbles. The conflict between the socs and greasers really shapes Ponyboy's journey through out the whole book.
