Since a very young age, Joey was taught that boys don't cry. In his family, the men were not allowed to show emotions that may allow them to be perceived as weak or "feminine". Joey struggled with his emotions for years and didn't know how to express feelings of sadness or fear. It was not until Lucy, the love of his life, sat down with him and explained that emotions are normal and natural. She also explained that it was unhealthy to keep all of his emotions inside. After speaking with Lucy about how he was feeling, he instantly felt lighter. Joey continued to work on sharing his feelings and made sure to let his son know that it was ok to feel sad sometimes.
