Storyboard Text

  • Hello Dr. Smith!  Mr. Jones is ready in room 2- His blood pressure is 174 / 98. He says it has been a little high the pasts few months
  • Wow!  That is pretty high.  Let me go in and talk to him.  He may need medication to get it under control
  • Hi Mr. Jones.  It seems as if you pressure is a bit high.  I would like you to start taking Metoprolol.  It is a Beta blocker.
  • Ok.  How does this medication work?  Does it hav any side effects.
  • It is a beta 1 receptor blocker and it will help protect your heart by keeping your heart rate down and help you maintain a healthy blood pressure.
  • Some possible side effects of the drug are dizziness, fatigue and drowsiness.
  • It will also protect your blood vessels throughout your body and help prevent vessel damage and even a stroke.
  • Ok.  That sounds like it will help me.  I sure do not want any problems!
  • One more thing.  Make sure your systolic pressure remains above 100 and your heart rate stays above 60.
  •  If it goes below these numbers or you feel faint or dizzy, give us a call.
  • Thank you again Dr. Smith.  I will keep an eye on those numbers.
  • I sure am glad I came to the Dr. before it was too late.
  • Thank you!  I will.  Have a good day!
  • By Mr. Jones.  Call us if you have any issues with your medication.
