Hi, there! Here is how you can use social media safely.
There is risk in talking to strangers. You wouldn't talk to a stranger on the street and ask them to be your friend without knowing them first, so don't do it on social media either!
You don't know the people online. You don't know if they are good or bad.
Don't be personal, because social media is public! If they know you, they should know you in person, not only online. There are bad people who might want to cause trouble, like give you a computer virus or steal your identity!
Hey, I didn't go to the prom with that guy! Someone changed my picture and sent it out to the world!
You can't control what other people post, so only share your information with people you trust.
According to 2018 Identity Fraud: Fraud Enters a New Era of Complexity from Javelin Strategy & Research, in 2017, there were 16.7 million victims of identity fraud, a record high that followed a previous record the year before. (http://www.iii.org)
