August 1788- Estate generals called Louis XVI because he is bankrupt. The 3 estate generals asked to elect representatives and get lists they could discuss.
May 1789- The peasants were having riots, burning rich homes and the feudal documents which said that they had to pay taxes.
4th May 1789- Estate generals meet at the palace of Versailles. Louis is preoccupied by his ill son but the meetings still continue.
The National Assembly is formed when Louis does not listen to the third estate. They leave the meeting. Members from the other two estates form their government called the National Assembly and they vote not to break until they got what they wanted.
We won't stop until we get what we want!
July 14th- A famous prison in France is attacked by it's own people, known as the Bastille. Symbolic for the ancient regime and it's harsh government. A home to a large arsenal of weapons. Books had been locked up and banned. The prison only had 7 prisoners at the time. The Bastille home as torn apart brick by brick.
Summer of 1789- Riots continue and the kings intendants are replaced by governors chosen by the people.
