Purchase these indulgences and you will have a free pass to heaven!
This is not the way God wanted us to go to heaven, I have to fix this.
Martin Luther was born in 1483 he German professor of theology, composer, priest and monk. He was the religious reformer and catalyst of the 16th century reformation. He was struck by lightning and saw this as a sign from God. He took action and discovered what was happening within the Catholic church.
The Catholic church sold indulgences because they wanted money to upgrade the churches and be wealthy. The indulgences were fake pieces of paper with scriptures giving you a free pass to heaven. People purchased them because the priests convinced them it was the only way people could be forgiven for their sins. Martin Luther knew this was wrong as he could read the bible and God did not want this. The selling of indulgences was an outcome of the reformation occuring during the renaissance. The split between the Catholic church and a new type of Christianty known as Protestantism was made.
On the 31st of October, 1517 Martin Luther posted 95 theses upon the Wittleberg castle. They were statements and propositions for debate against the action of the Catholic church he did so to express his disagreement with the Catholic church. Before the renasiiance peroid only priests and monks could read the bible beacuse there were the only people with an education.
Martin Luther was asked to take down his 95 theses, he refused to keep them there and let the community read his opinion. He was then summoned to the diet of worms and was excommunicated. The diet of worms was an imperial council decide his fate.
In 1440 the Roman Catholic changed dramatically because of an invention of the printing press. The bible was originally printed in Latin and Greek. The printing press allowed a translation of text and bible scriptures.
After the printing press was discovered the bibles were translated into German so the community could read the bible for the first time by themselves. They discovered that Martin Luther was correct and they turned on the priests.
