Jing-Mei and her father are overwhelmed with emotions, because it's her father's first time in China in over 62 years and it's Jing-Mei's first time ever in her native country.
After the long ttrain ride, Jing-Mei and her father arrived at Guangzhou, where they met her father's aunt and the rest f the family. Her father and her aut have'nt seen eachother in over 62 years. They are crying and laughing, Jing-Mei took a picture to preserve the memory.
The family arrives at Toishan. Jing-Mei believes that therre was a booking mix-up because she says that the hotel is a grander version of the Hyatt Regency , but she's wrong. She keps asking outloud: "Is this communist China?"
Jing-Mei learns about her sisters were found and why her mother had abandoned them. She learned how her mother fled Kweilin , and walked several miles trying to get to Chung King, but she couldn't keep going with her babies, so she left them on the side of the road and stuffed money in their shirts with a picture of her family and address. Sadly, they were never returned.
She is on her way to meet her sisters for the first time. She can feel her heart pounding. She looks out of the window and sees that the sky is grey.
Jing-Mei is finally reunited with her sisters. They laughed, cried and wiped eachothers tears. Her father takes a picture of them. They watch as the grey-green surface changes into bright colors, and they see her mother and her happiness of her log cherished wish comming true.
