Hi, I am going to teach you how to solve two step equations today!
We are starting out with the problem y/2+16=32
Because you have to be "fair" to both sides of the equation you subtract 16 from the 32 also. When you do this your equation should look like this... y/2=16
The first thing that you have to is do the inverse operation which is doing the OPPOSITE of the sign next to the number without the variable. So, in this case we would subtract 16.
Your next step is to eliminate the 2 so that you can solve for y. As you should know whenever you see a fraction it means to divide.
The reason that you no long have the 16 in there is because when you subtract 16 from 16 you get 0 and there's no reason to keep that so to make it easier just eliminate it.
But, we are doing inverse operation meaning that we are multiplying not dividing.
Now we are on the other side of the problem (=16) so now you have to multiply the 16 by 2 to get your final answer of y= 32.
The way you eliminate the 2 is by doing the reciprocal of the number so, y/2 x 2/y by doing this you are getting the y by itself. To be fair we have to multiply 2 by the other side also.
I hope that I've helped you understand how to solve two-step equations!
