What is natural selection? Natural selection is one of the basic mechanisms of evolution, along with mutation, migration, and genetic drift.
There are four parts to natural selection. 1. Overproduction 2. Genetic Variation 3. Struggle to survive 4. Differential Reproduction These four parts are also known as adaptations.
Not all animals have all 4 parts of natural selection but some animals need at least one part to prevent them from becoming extinct.
For example a turtle need overproduction because when it lays its eggs on the beach a lot of the baby turtles will get killed on the way to the water by preditors.
