You are coming with me, Persephone, where you will be my queen.
Oh, Persephone, where could you be?
Demeter, the goddess of the harvest, had a beautiful daughter by the name of Persephone. Demeter and Persephone lived happily together until Hades, the god of the underworld decided he wanted company, or a queen.
I miss my mother...
One day, Persephone saw a beautiful flower, and picked it from the ground bringing Hades up from the ground to snatch her up, all while Demeter was not looking.
Go tell Hades that Persephone can leave.
Demeter searched from the end of the earth to the other for her precious Persephone. Her sorrow made everything on Earth stop growing, as she worried and worried about her daughter.
Oh, Honey, I missed you so much!!
Meanwhile, Hades kept offering Persephone food and jewels, but she was never satisfied knowing her mom was on the Earth waiting for her.
Zeus, the god of the heavens, saw everything that was going on down below and sent his messenger, Hermes, to tell Hades that Persephone was free to go back to her mom.
Demeter's happiness over seeing her daughter brought everything back to life, but Persephone had eaten a pomegranate from the underworld, meaning they Persephone had to go back to the underworld for a month for each seed she ate. Everytime she went back, Demeter felt sorrow and everything died back down again.
