  • The Cuban Revolution
  • Castro's Real Changes

  • Fulgencio Batista was elected as president but then became dictator. This made many people unhappy and led to Poverty and Education and Healthcare problems. Also angry Cubans because a very small group of rich Cubans had all the power.
  • Cuban Missile Crisis
  • 1959 - Castro defeated Batista. Castro then had 700 of his enemies executed. The US backed Castro as he promised to make Cuba a democracy.
  • US and Cuba Embargo
  • Castro failed to keep his promises. Every business belonged to the government. Newspapers, radios and TV stations were shut down and Castro began to organise a communist government.
  • Castro and Cuba Today
  • October, 1962, US planes spotted secret Soviet missile bases in Cuba. JFK told US citizens that the soviets had long-range missiles in Cuba. This was an intense time and couldve led to WW3.
  • The US placed an embargo on goods from Cuba in 1962 - still in place today. This hurt Cuba's economy.
  • After a decline in health, Fidel Castro gave up the Cuban presidency on February 19, 2008.His brother Rual is now in charge.
