  • Batista's Cuba
  • What was the Cuban Revolution
  • Castro's False Promises
  • Batista was elected but then became a dictator, this made many people unhappy. There was lots of poverty, bad education and bad health care.  Rich Cubans had more power than poor Cubans.
  • Castros's Real changes
  • By 1959, Castro had taken over the government. Castro made himself dictator of Cuba. 700 of his enemies executed, and some thrown in prison. US liked him him, as he promised to make Cuba a democracy. US sent him supplies to help defeat Batista.
  • Cuban Missile Crisis
  • Castro promised to end American dominance over Cuban businesses, re-distribute the wealth evenly to all Cuban's, make every Cuban literature, and he wanted to give all Cubans healthcare and higher life expectancy.
  • US-Cuba Embargo
  • Castro failed to do many of the things he promised he would do. He began organising a Communist government right away. He declared that all property belonging to American's now belonged to thew Cuban government.
  • October 1962, US planes spotted secret Soviet Missile bases in Cuba. JFK announced to US that Soviets had placed long-range missile in Cuba. Extremely tense time (height of cold war) could have led to WW3.
  • Due to harsh events, US placed an embargo on goods from Cuba in 1962. Cuba's sugar cane crop could no longer be sold in the US, which hurt Cuba's economy. The embargo is still in place today. As a result of the embargo, poor harvest and bad government planning, Cuba's economy has become very poor.
