  • Batista was elected for president but made himself dictator. People didn't like him ruling  because there was lots of poverty.
  • Real Changes
  • In 1959  Castro took over the government. Castro made himself dictator. 700 people were executed and lots more were thrown in jail. The US helped Castro make Cuba a dictatorship by sending supplies to Castro.
  • Cuban Missile Crisis
  • It was hot
  • Castro promised to end American power over Cuban businesses. Share the wealth. Make people literate. Give everyone healthcare and higher life expectancy.
  • Resolution
  • Castro didn't make his promises. He made a communist government right away. n. All businesses are now owned by the government. Cubans couldn't protest against the government. Media was shutdown.
  • In 1962 U.S planes spotted a missile base in Cuba. This was tense and could have lead to WW3. 
  • JFK agreed not to invade Cuba and removed missiles from Turkey. In return Krushev agreed to remove missiles from Cuba.
